The Supervisory Board of UNIQA Versicherungen AG notes the request of the current Chairman, Herbert Schimetschek not to extend his contract as Chairman beyond the end of the current period. Mr. Schimetschek will end his activity in the Management Board of UNIQA on 31^st December 2001 and at the request of the Supervisory Board fulfil an advisory function.

The successor to Mr. Schimetschek will be Dr. Konstantin Klien, currently Chairman of AXA-COLONIA Österreich. In agreement with his employer, Dr. Klien will leave AXA-COLONIA with effect from 1^st October 2000. He was today appointed by the Supervisory Board of UNIQA with effect from 1^st October 2000 as Deputy Chairman of the Management Board of UNIQA. From 1^st January 2002 Dr. Klien will be appointed Chairman of the Management Board and Chairman of UNIQA.

Dr. Konstantin Klien was born in 1951.After taking the Matura examination and studying at a University of Economics, Dr. Klien first worked for an internationally well-known firm of auditors.In 1978 he joined NORDSTERN-Versicherung..In 1986 Dr. Klien was appointed member of the Management Board of NORDSTERN-COLONIA. From 1^st February 1991 Dr. Klien was Chairman of AXA-COLONIA Österreich . Dr. Klien is married and has one son.
