UNIQA Group Austria in the first nine months of 1999 Clear growth for UNIQA domestically and abroad The UNIQA Group Austria‘s domestic companies achieved a clear premium plus of 8.0% from direct business in the first nine months of the current year, compared to the same period the previous year. Thereby the Group, consisting of the UNIQA Personenversicherung, the UNIQA Sachversicherung, the Raiffeisen-Versicherung, the Salzburger Landes-Versicherung and the Collegialität Versicherung achieved a volume of premiums earned of ATS 21,671.8 million. The benefits paid during the same period increased by 8.5% to ATS 14,803.7 million. Domestic business by business line Health insurance:The earned health insurance premium increased by 0.6% to ATS 5,839.1 million in comparison to the same period in the previous year. The development in insurance benefits paid showed a decrease of 2.6% to ATS 4,590.5 million. Life assurance:With a premium increase of 22.2%, life assurance is ‘the‘ growth segment as was expected. In total, the earned premium increased to ATS 9,239.5 million in the first nine months of the year. The premiums from single premium business – included in this value – almost doubled with an increase of 87.7%. Even adjusted for the single premiums, life assurance produced an extremely pleasing growth of 12.7%. As in the past, the strongest impulse in life assurance came from the Raiffeisen-Versicherung, the bank insurer within the UNIQA Group Austria. The already high level insurance benefits paid increased by 17.8%, compared to the same period in the previous year. Property and casualty insurance:In property and casualty insurance, the earned premiums of ATS 6,593.2 million were 1.7% below the previous year’s value. This continues to be based on the decrease in premium level in the motor vehicle line. The premiums in this line reduced by 4.3%. This could not be compensated for by the growth (+0.5%) in the other property insurance lines. In spite of the increased competition, we succeeded in expanding the motor vehicle insurance portfolio by 5.3%. The benefits paid in property and casualty insurance increased by 9.9% to ATS 4,269.8 million compared to the previous year.
