UNIQA expends in the Czech Republic

The Czech insurance company CRP changes its name to UNIQA Vpojist'ovna a.s.on 18th June 2001

At a ceremonial act at the Zofin palace in Prag, Marek Venuta, CEO of CRP and Herbert Schimetschek, CEO of UNIQA, changed the name of the sister company CRP Eesko-rakouska pojist’ovna a.s. to UNIQA pojist’ovna a.s. Among the 400 official guests: Jiri Rusnok, finance minister of the Czech Republic, Zdenik Sommer, President of the Chamber of Commerce and Dr.Klas Daubiebsky, the Austrian ambassador.

In the Czech Republic, quality and service in the insurance business will be linked to UNIQA just as much as in all the countries where the Austrian group is present on the market. The very successful  Czech company counting 530 employees was founded in 1993 as CRP  and will carry the brand name which has become synonym for competence and security in countries lake Austria, Switzerland, Croatia and Slovakia.

Although the Czech Republic has gone through economically troubled waters in the past, CRP succeeded not only in increasing the premium volume in the damage/accident sector and  the life insurance business but also in limiting the personnel and non personnel costs. The premium income amounted to 1.258 million CZK (37 million EUR). With 178.000 contracts UNIQA pojist ovna a.s. ranks among the first ten insurers in the Czech Republic. This success achieved in the late nineties is to be considered as a solid basis for the business years to come.

The change in name, as in all the other countries, was prepared thanks to an intensive management process based on the common approach to the group’s philosophy. Just as on all the other markets where UNIQA is actively represented, individual solutions for insurance and pension scheme requirements form the basis for sustained growth and increasing profits. New co-operations and new products will most certainly develop positively the market share in the coming years. UNIQA pojist’ovna a.s., in the Czech Republic a classic composite insurance company, will focus on bundle insurances for persons and property. On its internet website UNIQA concentrates, like elsewhere, on service and swiftness, two qualities particularly important in cases of damage or compensation.Throughwww.uniqa.czvictims of car accidents can declare their claims online.

Permanent internationalisation is one of the main objectives of the UNIQA group. The activities abroad are monitored  by the UNIQA International Versicherungs-Holding, a 100% sister company of the listed UNIQA Versicherungen AG.

The strategic development of the group’s international activities was pursued according to plan by restructuring and reassessing the foreign participations.During the previous year, the  UNIQA group took a majority in Assicurazioni La Carnica in Udine/Italy, opened a branch office of UNIQA Personenversicherungen AG in Milan and concluded all preparatory measures to start this year on the Polish market. On a medium-term basis the share of the international business should reach 15% of the total premium volume.
