Supporting the Salzburg Festival extends UNIQA’s high-quality programme for sponsoring culture

UNIQA Sponsors Outstanding Austrian Culture with European quality

At a joint press conference on August 9th, 2001, held at the Festspielhaus in Salzburg, Dr Helga Rabl-Stadler, President of the Festival, and Herbert Schimetschek, Chairman of UNIQA, presented their objectives and plans for cooperation between UNIQA, one of the Festival’s main sponsors, and the Salzburg Festival for the coming three years.

UNIQA’s commitment is a reflection of its strategic support for international events of the highest cultural standards. Part of this perspective is UNIQA’s support of the Sunday Concerts given by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra or the innovative decoration of the trucks transporting the countless stage sets of the Vienna Opera. Another project along this line is the promotion of young Austrian musicians within the youth orchestra founded by UNIQA, a pool for the best music students in Austria aged between 15 and 25, the “Junge Philharmonie Wien”.

As Herbert Schimetschek , Chairman of UNIQA, declared, ”In our new sponsoring project, we do not consider ourselves to be passive “donors” but as an active partner which actively sponsors and supports the Salzburg Festival. More concretely, we will try our best to motivate a much broader section of the Austrian public to consider this Festival as its own”.

“We also intend to attract larger audiences from Central and Eastern Europe. As an Austrian insurance group with business in Eastern Europe we will use our experience and contacts to build bridges between culturally interested people in these countries and the Salzburg Festival,” added Mr Schimetschek.

Currently, UNIQA is not only active in Austria but also in Italy, Croatia, Liechtenstein, Poland, Switzerland, Slovakia, Spain and the Czech Republic.

Creativity, precision, originality, emotion, humanity, commitment and team spirit are the ingredients of any cultural achievement and, incidentally, also the components of UNIQA’s corporate identity.

“We concentrate our sponsoring activities on music which – like our company – requires coordination between everybody’s personal effort and the harmony of a whole group in order reach the highest quality standards. This is also why we sponsor the most prestigious cultural event in Europe, the Salzburg Festival, whose cultural commitment is completely in line with the policy of our company. We offer top quality – like  the other main sponsors - and want to prove it this on a long-term bases beyond any doubt. Here we see parallels to our new partner who, like ourselves, has set new quality standards in the cultural world”, declared Mr Schimetschek.
