Innovative art insurance for keen collectors

"Art and Passion" offers unique security

The new art policy offers well-to-do individuals and professional collectors a special insurance policy. "Through this policy objets d’art are insured for a figure that goes well beyond the cover of normal home insurance”, explains UNIQA CEO Dr. Konstantin Klien. "In insuring art, UNIQA can call on the knowledge it has acquired over many years of insuring major exhibitions and galleries. Individual customers can also profit from this knowledge”, says Klien.

A special feature of the new art insurance policy is that UNIQA can offer the insured professional advice and contact with art historians. Together with the customer, these experts value the objets d’art to be insured. So the market value can be defined before any possible claim. Every   two years the collection in reassessed, and, in between, new purchases and possible rises in value are covered by a precautionary policy.

Every year some 60 to 70 thousand objets d’art are stolen. But the new insurance covers not only theft, but restoration costs arising, for example, from damage by water, accidents or singeing.

In addition, there is All Risk coverage, which in the case of “Art and Passion” gives full cover against, for example, natural catastrophes such as earthquakes, flooding and also vandalism.

Private collections with a value from EUR 75,000 upwards can be covered by UNIQA. As well as paintings, furniture, porcelain and sculptures, “Art and Passion” can cover old musical instruments, old weapons, and all kinds of wine.

In addition to the new art policy, which is primarily directed at private collectors, UNIQA will also concentrate more on the insurance of professional art facilities in Eastern Europe. " In this new product . “Art and Passion” UNIQA has been able to exploit the know-how it has acquired in the field of art insurance, and it will also use this and offer it in Eastern European countries.  We shall particularly concentrate on museums and exhibition facilities, as well as on professional art collectors”, says Klien.
