The UNIQA Group Austria has been active on the Czech market since 1993 with UNIQA pojišt'ovna, as the company is now called. The first half of 2009 was extremely successful, with a growth in premiums of over 7.3% to reach CZK 2.324 billion (roughly EUR 85.1 million). In comparison, the entire insurance market in the Czech Republic grew during the first half of the year by only about 1.7%.

UNIQA pojišt'ovna saw the highest growth rates in the non-life area with an increase of 10.5% to reach CZK 1.766 billion (EUR 64.7 million). The entire non-life market grew during the same period by only about 2.2%. The Czech UNIQA subsidiary achieved its best growth rates in the area of "technical insurance policies" (primarily machines and plants) at 35% and health insurance at 23%. Automobile insurance, which makes up roughly 40% of the total premium revenue, also saw significant growth with an increase in premium volume by 13% to reach CZK 976 million (EUR 35.8 million).

In life insurance, the revenue from single-premium policies increased by 25%, while the recurring premium revenue fell slightly despite an increase in the number of policies.

The 1,150 employees of UNIQA pojišt'ovna currently support roughly 513,000 policies from the headquarters in Prague and 140 other locations throughout the entire country.
