UNIQA Group result 1999 by categories

Damage and accident insurance
The category damage and accident insurance in 1999 produced premiums of ATS 10,451.0 million (EUR 759.5 million), which corresponds for the Group as a whole to a premium share of 33.2 %. The positive development of the other categories largely compensated for the decline in premiums in the motor insurance sector attributable to the strong competition, so that premium income remained virtually the same as in the previous year.


The UNIQA Group share of the Austrian damage and accident insurance market also remained about the same as in the previous year, with 13.2% according to provisional figures.

For damage and accident insurance claims in 1999 the UNIQA Group met claims with retained benefits amounting to ATS 6,121.1 million (EUR 444.8 million) , 0.2% less than in 1998.

UNIQA Group companies at the year end were servicing 3,372,585 policies.

Life assurance
The main pillar of growth in 1999 was the category of life assurance, with a plus of 10.1%, so that its share of the total Group premium volume rose from 37.2 % to 39.3 %. Life assurance premiums billed amounting to ATS 12,393.2 million (EUR 900.6 million) is also the largest category within the UNIQA Group.

The premium growth of Raiffeisen Versicherung in the category of life assurance, 18.9%, contributed decisively to the good overall result of the UNIQA Group. Consolidated, it accounts for 65.2% of all the life assurance premiums of the Group.

The UNIQA Groupā€˜s share of the Austrian life assurance market has slightly declined, according to provisional figures, from 20.3% to 19.5% .

Offsetting premium increases are claims, maintaining a high level amounting to ATS 8,551.7 million (EUR 621.5 million) This represents an increase of 9.7%.

Altogether 1,875,281 life assurance policies were being handled at year-end by Group companies.

Health insurance
Billed premiums for health insurance in 1999 rose 1.6 % to ATS 8,661.4 million (EUR 629.5 million). Their share of the Group premium is 27.5%,

The share of UNIQA Group companies in the Austrian health insurance market has minimally declined from 50.3% to 49.9% . Thus UNIQA remains in the undisputed market leader in this sector.

Offsetting premium income from health insurance in 1999 were claims with retained benefits amounting to ATS 6,745.1 million (EUR 490.2 million). This represents a plus of 1.9% in comparison with the previous year.

At the year end, UNIQA Group companies were handling 608,866 health insurance policies.
