The Supervisory Board of UNIQA Versicherungen AG noted the request of Chairman Herbert Schimetschek not to renew his appointment as Chairman beyond the end of the current period. As of 31st December 2001 Mr. Schimetschek will terminate his activity on the Supervisory Board of UNIQA and remain available to the Group, on request of the Supervisory Board, with an advisory function.

The successor to Mr Schimetschek as the future Chairman of UNIQA will be Dr. Konstantin Klien, the current Chairman of AXA-COLONIA Österreich. In agreement with his current employer, Dr Klein will leave AXA-COLONIA in late summer. He has already been appointed by the UNIQA Supervisory Board as Deputy Chairman of the Management Board with the title “Deputy Director“ as from 1^st October 2000.  From 1^st January 2002 Dr. Klien will be appointed Chairman of the Management Board and General Director of UNIQA.

Dr. Konstantin Klien was born in 1951.After passing his Matura examination and studying at the Univesity of Economics, Dr. Klien initially worked for an internationally well-known firm of auditors.In 1978 he joined NORDSTERN-Versicherung.In 1986 Dr. Klien was appointed to the Management Board of NORDSTERN-COLONIA. From 1^st February 1991 Dr. Klien was Chairman of AXA-COLONIA Österreich. He is married and has one son.
