in the year of reporting rose from ATS 135,068.2 million (EUR 9,815.8 million) by 6.1% to ATS 143,312.8 million (EUR 10,415 million).

In the year 2000, the consolidated net financial figure achieved amounted toATS 9,146.9 million (EUR 664.7 million) 3.1% above the previous year’s figure of ATS 8,873.5 million (EUR 644.9 million),

Result of ordinary business activity
The UNIQA Group in the business year 2000 achieved a result (according to AIS) of ATS 577.1 million (EUR 41.9 million), Compared to the previous year’s result this represents a decline of ATS 50.5 million (EUR 3.7 million) or 8.0%, The result calculated by the previous Austrian accounting method dropped slightly by ATS 10.1 million or 1.2% to ATS 816.9 million (EUR 59.4 million) .

The causes for this decline are primarily the poor results in damage and accident insurance. These lines are characterized by stagnating premium levels and a simultaneous big increase in claims, especially in comprehensive motor insurance. These results are compounded by a number of individual events such as storm and flood damage last summer.

The restructuring measures last year and the cost of the brand relaunch abroad also negatively affected the result of ordinary business activity.

The Group surplus in 2000 (according to IAS) was ATS 334.8 million (EUR 24.3 million), about ATS 26 million (EUR 1.9 million) below the previous year’s level. However, it should be noted that in 2000 the contribution of the UNIQA Group to the All-Austrian compensation for victims of the Nazi regime represented an extraordinary expense.

Staff
In the year of reporting the UNIQA Group employed on average 6,443 staff. Of whom 5,521 were employed in Austria.
In the Group as a whole there are 3,051 staff in the field and 3,392 in offices.
