The UNIQA Group in the first quarter of 2000

The Group as a whole In the first quarter of 2000 the companies of the UNIQA Group achieved a growth in premium income of 18.3% compared with the equivalent period in the previous year. Thus the figure for premiums earned amounted to ATS 8,894.9 million (EUR 646.4 million).

The major growth again came from life assurance, with premiums earned rising by ATS 1,132.3 million) (EUR 82.3 million) or 36.0% to ATS 4,276.4 million (EUR 310.8 million) The result is primarily due to the success of Raiffeisen Versicherung.

Damage and accident insurance in the first quarter of 2000 produced a premium volume of ATS 2,465.4 million (EUR 179.2 million), a plus of 8.0%. Due to its successful activity in the neighbouring German market, Salzburger Landes-Versicherung successfully managed to overcome the difficult competitive situation in the motor insurance market

Health insurance in the first quarter of 2000 showed a growth of premiums earned of 2.8% to ATS 2,153.2 million (EUR 156.5 million).

The UNIQA Group companies paid claims to customers in the first quarter of 2002 amounting to ATS 5,563.1 million (EUR 404.3 million) - 12.5% more than in the equivalent period in the previous year

Foreign business
The foreign companies in the UNIQA Group also show positive results for premium income in the first quarter of 2000. The highest increase was achieved by Tschechisch Österreichische Versicherung (CRP) with 37.4%, reaching CSK 274.4 million (EUR 7.2 million), In Slovakia Otcina income in the first quarter of 2000 was SKK 168.1 million (Euro 4.0 million) – a minus of 26.6% compared with the equivalent period in the previous year.  Austria Assicurazioni in Italy increased premium income in the first quarter of 2000s by 11.9% to ITL 14.1 billion (EUR 7.3 million). Austria Assurances in Geneva also achieved a premium increase of 6.3% to CHF 11.6 million ((EUR 7.2 million). Austrija Osiguranje started business activity in Croatia in November 1999.

UNIQA has expanded the European basis of the Group with the take-over of Carnica Insurance in Italy, and with the planned entry into the Polish insurance market.
