An overview of foreign activities

Group results abroad in 2001

The UNIQA Group (http://www.uniqa.at ) carried on its strategic development of foreign activities last year according to plan. UNIQA is using the opportunities on the European market to promote the further internationalization of its core business. Its foreign involvement is creating new opportunities for expansion and reducing dependence on the tense domestic market by the regional spread of risk. In the year of reporting, 2001, UNIQA took over a majority shareholding in the Polish Polonia S.A. (non-life insurance) and indirectly its subsidiary Polonia Zycie S.A. (life assurance). Both companies are now more than 90% owned by the UNIQA Group.

At the same time, the restructuring of foreign business begun in 2000and the brand relaunch of the subsidiaries UNIQA poistovna (Slowakei) and UNIQA pojistovna (Czech Republic) were successfully continued. These activities are carried out by UNIQA International Versicherungs-Holding, a 100% subsidiary of UNIQA Versicherungen AG.

Sharp increase of premium volume abroad
The fullyDThe fully consolidated companies of the Group abroad were able to increase thei premium volume outside Austria 41.3% to EUR 219.8 million. The share of the Group’s premium accounted for by was thue 8.3%. The premiums earned were offset by claims amounting to 115.5 Mio. Euro (+ 25,5%).

Result of ordinary business activity rises sharply by 48.0%
The result of ordinary business activity of the foreign companies rose 48.0% last year to EUR 15.1 million.
