UNIQA in the SEE region: cooperation as a model for success
With more than 2.5 million customers and high customer satisfaction, the SEE region is one of the growth drivers for UNIQA. The recent SEE Regional Days in Tivat, Montenegro, impressively demonstrated that this momentum is based on genuine cooperation and innovation.
Managers and teams from all six SEE markets – Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Montenegro, Romania and Serbia – came together to look back on the milestones achieved and determine the next steps. It became clear that the strength of the region lies not only in its shared structures, but much more in cross-border cooperation: "Our teams collaborate across borders, languages and hierarchies. We learn from each other every day – and that is what drives our progress," emphasised Adel Bahtanović, President of UNIQA SEE Region.
Beyond the internal discussions, a press conference also brought together journalists from Montenegro and Serbia, offering them the opportunity to learn more about UNIQA’s strategy, achievements, and initiatives. The dialogue with the media underscored how UNIQA SEE has grown into a strong, connected region, one that is not only aligned internally but increasingly recognised externally for its relevance and impact. “Our SEE region is not only one of UNIQA’s core regions – it is a region that drives growth, innovation and collaboration across borders.”, confirms Wolfgang Kindl, Member of the Management Board of UNIQA Insurance Group.
Customer focus and digital solutions
The SEE markets demonstrate how concrete results can emerge from collaborative efforts. Since 2022, teams have been developing IT solutions, new products, and customer service improvements across borders together, sharing knowledge and implementing ideas jointly. There are many examples of this successful cooperation. MedUNIQA in Bulgaria stands out as an innovative health insurance solution: through the telemedicine app, users can book consultations with a doctor online, view medication prices, and manage their documents – all within a single application.
In Romania, the digital assistant ANA has transformed customer service and significantly accelerated claims processing. Additionally, the Romanian subsidiary has received multiple awards for outstanding performance in the areas of customer service, innovation, and sustainability. Between 2023 and 2025, the company earned several prestigious awards – including for excellent services in the corporate customer segment, sustainable product innovations (ECOhome Protect), as well as for its commitment to customer satisfaction and sustainable development.
Across the region, UNIQA has also introduced a telemedicine service for users of voluntary health insurance in Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina. This innovative service enables clients to consult with doctors online via video call, phone, or chat, offering medical advice, diagnoses, and treatment recommendations. The service is included in selected insurance packages and is powered by the Mavie Telemed platform, enhancing access to healthcare through digital solutions. The Telemedicine services are also available within UNIQA’s travel insurance products.
The launch of the MyUNIQA portal in Serbia marks an important milestone in the digital transformation of our business and in unifying the customer journey across the SEE region.
Serbia is the first country in the region to implement the new client portal, representing a significant step forward in how UNIQA communicates with and supports its clients. This launch also marks the beginning of a broader rollout aimed at enhancing the customer experience across the entire SEE region. By the end of the year, the new portal will also go live in Croatia, replacing the existing MyUNIQA portal.
Such innovations are more than just local projects – they create scalable models that can be applied throughout the entire region.
Our teams collaborate across borders, languages and hierarchies. We learn from each other every day – and that is what drives our progress.
Business resilience in times of climate change
At the same time, UNIQA SEE is expanding its commitment with a new offering in the region: UNIQA Sustainable Business Solutions will soon also be active in South-Eastern Europe. The UNIQA subsidiary helps companies identify climate risks at an early stage and strengthen their resilience. With a team of experts from the fields of risk engineering and sustainability, UNIQA Sustainable develops tailored analyses, prevention strategies and training courses. The aim is to support companies in an increasingly complex environment – from regulatory requirements to the consequences of climate change – and thus create long-term security and sustainability.
Responsibility for society and the future
For UNIQA SEE, growth also means taking responsibility. The UNIQA SEE FUTURE Foundation supports young people in South-Eastern Europe who are setting new standards in sport, culture and sustainability. With well-known mentors such as tennis legend Goran Ivanišević, who is also UNIQA's brand ambassador in the SEE region, young talents receive targeted support. Additionally, projects such as the Female Filmmakers Support Programme and the Mentorship Programme for Visual Artists open up opportunities for creative careers. Through these initiatives, UNIQA SEE combines economic strength with a clear social contribution.
