My unique summer: One summer, many perspectives
What happens when young talents from 11 countries come together to discover UNIQA from new perspectives? The result is an extraordinary summer program that goes beyond traditional internships and creates space for personal development and intercultural exchange.
Three weeks, many countries, countless impressions: “My unique summer” brought together talented young people from across the UNIQA Group for the second time this year with the aim of learning from each other, growing together, and experiencing UNIQA from completely new perspectives. The participants traveled, discussed, developed ideas, and worked on cross-location projects focusing on future topics such as digitalization, sustainability, diversity, and customer centricity.
An international team on a joint learning journey
The participants of “My unique summer” came from a total of 11 countries: Austria, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Romania, Serbia, and Montenegro. Whether from IT, People, Actuarial, ESG, or Sales, they brought with them a wealth of expertise and different perspectives. Two young talents from Austria, from the regional headquarters in Burgenland and Tyrol, were also part of the international team. Together, they visited various UNIQA locations – Vienna, Zagreb, Sarajevo, Warsaw, Budapest, and Prague.
It was inspiring to see how they brought new perspectives to the table and how we, as experienced colleagues, can benefit from them. This experience has made it clear to me that true innovation comes from a diverse and inclusive work culture
Deep insights instead of superficial knowledge
“My unique summer” is much more than a traditional internship – it is an intensive development program that enables young talents to get to know UNIQA up close. For three weeks, participants experience everyday work at various locations, take part in workshops, lectures, and excursions, work together on projects, and are accompanied by experienced mentors.
This program is designed to provide a broad look about different aspects of the insurance industry and at modern business tactics. Each session is designed to give our young colleagues both the theory and the practical insights to help them understand the ins and outs of the insurance business. They learn about shaping the future and creating and executing effective business strategies.
“My unique summer” covers a wide range of topics, from learning about Business models, insurance-specific expertise in pricing and claims management to risk management and finance in insurance. This year’s program also covered important topics from market analysis, M&A, performance management and commUNIties to future-oriented fields such as digitalization, data analytics, and ESG. Topics such as employer branding, diversity & inclusion, corporate culture, and communication were also on the agenda. The journey was rounded off by project work, feedback sessions, and a certificate ceremony – an intensive learning experience that deepened knowledge, broadens perspectives, and creates connections.
Why UNIQA is taking this path
With “My unique summer,” UNIQA is sending a clear signal for promotion, diversity, and a corporate culture that specifically integrates and develops committed talent. The program is a conscious investment in the next generation and, at the same time, a catalyst for cross-border cooperation. Three weeks of intensive collaboration create networks that continue beyond the program and enrich everyday corporate life in the long term.
"I have been involved in many programs during my career, but this one is special. I was very impressed by the openness and curiosity with which the young colleagues approached us. Their fresh perspective on our work showed how much potential this generation has. It was inspiring to see how they brought new perspectives to the table and how we, as experienced colleagues, can benefit from them. This experience has made it clear to me that true innovation comes from a diverse and inclusive work culture", explains Ulrike Kienast-Salmhofer, Diversity & Inclusion Officer, who accompanied a group of international colleagues in Austria.
And that is precisely where the added value lies: participants return not only with fresh knowledge, but also with new perspectives, international friendships, and a stronger sense of belonging. “My unique summer” shows how UNIQA promotes young talent and international cooperation – and the opportunities that arise from this.
